Most contractors typically only specialize in a few areas, whereas inspectors must be knowledgeable of all areas in order to discover the defect. To hire an individual contractor for every major system of the home would likely cost well over $1000. An analysis of the property conducted by a specially trained and completely objective home inspector is far less. A licensed and trained inspector’s duty is to identify nonfunctioning systems, damaged or deficient building components, safety issues and quality installations in all accessible areas.
